Energy Insights

Introduction to Energy Insights

The Energy Insights dashboard enables users to view whole-building energy performance trends across multiple buildings in their portfolio. The dashboard utilizes energy meters from the building and calculated virtual meters to visualize total energy consumption, energy use intensity (EUI), system/equipment energy demands, and energy Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). The dashboard includes a table of diagnostics identifying the top energy performance issues occurring across all equipment within the selected buildings.

Setting up the Dashboard

Building Energy Analysis

The Energy Insights dashboard leverages the configuration of the “Building Energy” analysis to isolate the energy metering points which represent whole-building energy consumption. The Building Energy analysis will be configured for any building which contains energy meters which were included in the project scope. Users can verify the Building Energy analysis is configured by viewing the Diagnostics table:

Removing Non-Applicable Widgets

The dashboard template is setup to provide insights to electric and natural gas energy consumption and performance. The dashboard also includes system-level key performance indicators for boiler, chiller, and air handler performance. Some buildings may not contain the meters and/or equipment required to populate all widgets on the dashboard. Non-applicable widgets can be removed via the drop-down menu in the upper-right of the widget:

Section 1: Whole Building Utilities

The first section of the dashboard summarizes whole-building utility consumption and energy use intensity (EUI) for electricity and natural gas. This section responds to the dashboard filters for analysis interval (daily, weekly, monthly) and date range (e.g. last 12 months)

Section 2: Equipment Energy Consumption and Performance Metrics

The second section of the dashboard focuses on energy demand from the systems/equipment contained within the buildings. This section utilizes calculated points produced from the analyses which quantify the cooling, heating, and electric energy consumption of each equipment. System level Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) are provided for heating, cooling, and ventilation efficiency by building and equipment.

All charts in this section are configured with widget filters to view the last 30 days of data.

Section 3: Diagnostics

The third section of the dashboard contains summary of diagnostics identifying energy waste within the selected buildings. The “Building Avoidable Cost Drill Down” widget summarizes avoidable cost from energy waste by building and system (via drill-down). The Top Diagnostics by Avoidable Cost table details the top energy waste issues occurring across all buildings.
