Drill Down and Drill Through or Linking in Widgets

What is Drill Down and Drill Through or Linking?

Some of our dashboard widgets offer the capability to drill down into deeper levels of detail in the data. For example, we have a widget that allows you to view avoidable cost per building, but then drill down into each building to view avoidable cost by equipment class, and then drill into each equipment class to view avoidable cost by equipment. This allows you to narrow in on the highest priority items from top to bottom.

In addition, many of our widgets provide drill through, or linking, functionality, to navigate from the information in the widget to a relevant page elsewhere in the application. For example, many of our diagnostics widgets allow you to navigate to our diagnostics module to focus in on the diagnostics represented in the widget.

In summary

  • Drill Down - allows you to go a level deeper into the data you are looking into within widget

  • Drill Through or Linking - allows you to navigate to another part of the application with information relevant to the data you were viewing in the widget

For Drill Through or Linking, we will be using the dashboard, “Equipment Maintenance Top Faults”. Widgets that have drill through or linking will display a mouse button with a right click highlighted that looks like:

  1. To drill through, simply right click when the image becomes available and a link will now be displayed:

  2. Click the link and a new tab will open in your browser, taking you to the specific diagnostics related to the “Cooling Tower -1” for the building “Fareham”:

  3. Congratulations! You have now “Linked” to the pertinent diagnostics. You can now return to the dashboard and continue to “Link” to any other diagnostics as long as the widget has the functionality and the icon mentioned in the summary is available.
