Troubleshooting

Reactivate a Data Transfer Service (DTS) v6.1+

For data transfer services (DTS) which stopped due to failure to authenticate, follow the process below to restart the DTS.

This article applies to DTS versions v6.1+ or greater and describes the process for reactivating a DTS which remained installed on a client's site however was disabled in Building Advisor Asset Health.  Disabling the DTS GUID in Building Advisor Asset Health causes the DTS's windows service to both self-disable and self-stop.  A ConfigWatchdog.log file is created in the install directory when the application self-stops. When present, the ConfigWatchdog.log file must be deleted before the service can be placed back into Automatic and restarted.

Instructions

  1. Locate the computer, server, or virtual machine on which the Building Advisor Asset Health data transfer service is installed.

  2. Find the install directory of the DTS which is based at “C:\Program Files (x86)\KGS Buildings\BuildingAnalyticsDTS…”

  3. Locate the file in the install directory called ConfigWatchdog.log and delete it.  The DTS will not allow the windows service to start if this file is present.

  4. Locate the associated window service for the install where the service name begins with “BuildingAnalyticsDTS…”

  5. Edit the windows service so that its startup type is Automatic.

  6. Start the window service.
